In Everything There is Beauty

In everything there is beauty. Our job is to find it. This is something that I believe deeply and try to live by, specially during hard times in my life. It does not mean that we stick our heads in the sand and live in a delusion, but rather that we choose were we spend our energy. If you have to eat, eat on a beautiful plate. then, washing that plate can become a beautiful moment in which you immerse yourself totally in the beauty of the plate and the feel of the water and dish liquid. Be present in that moment even if it is just for an instant before your toddler is pulling at you. Let that instant that moment color your day. I remember once holding my three year old daughter who was struggling with some anxiety after the death of her grandfather and looking out of the window. “There are two trees out there”, I said. “They are both the same type of trees, both dogwood trees.” I continued. “One tree is blooming and is full of flowers.” The other tree, just across the yard, still held on to its winter bareness and had no flowers on its dark branches. “Both trees are out there, but which one do you want to focus on?” I asked. “You choose how you see the world. Is it a world of lack and bleakness, or is it a world of abundance in which you have at this moment what you need to create the life you want? No matter where we are we can find something of beauty. I am not saying that everything that happens in a persons life is beautiful. But rather that even in a life in which it seems we have nothing but bare branches, if you turn your head just a bit, you might just find the beauty that can give you strength.

Maria de Rojas-Scott

In everything there is beauty; our job is to find it. My art is an expression of the beauty around me. With heavy body acrylics and watercolors, I attempt to capture the essence of that beauty and reflect it back. My inspiration comes from both nature and the ordinary moments in our lives. My style is impressionistic-realism, and I work with both brush and knife on canvas, paper, boards and even wood. I paint primarily florals, birds and butterflies, and attempt to capture the small moments in people’s everyday lives. Living on one of Georgia’s barrier islands, landscapes of the ocean and marshes, are common subjects of my paintings. My goal is to celebrate the beauty of nature and life's small moments. I want to evoke an emotional connection with those who view my paintings
